What kind of tree food should i buy for a monterrey oak?

  1. I agree with RScott; if it's mature you don't need to fertilize.  If I had to fertilize all my trees on 24 acres I'd be broke!  I listed a site for the tree which list best conditions, etc for the tree but found nothing on fertilizing.  If it's a sapling I might just ammend the soil (2x2 area) with a little peat and bone meal to get it going.  I read that bone meal lasts for several years so that you do not have to reapply annually.


  2. If it's a large mature tree it can fend for food on his own. I had a two hundred year old White Oak in Virginia that was full of birds and squirrels, bee hive  bats and a Flying Squirrel family until the cats and snakes  got them. Every time they leave home they drop the weight of poo, feathers and fur not needed for the trip on a leaf and giving foilare feeding, absorbed by the plant.That's a lot of fertilizer, Your's may need some thing, but get a soil test and get it done right.  RScott
