I planted a young tree in my garden which I was told was a twisted willow but it is the leaves and not the branches that are twisted. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

  1. Some Pine trees do have twisted leaves. Other trees like Virginia pine, P.Mugho, P.radiata & Helvitica also have twisted leaves.

Hope this is of some help to you.

  2. I have a curly willow with twisted leaves. We use the leaves, made into a weak tea, as root starter.  According to the Western Garden Book, it is a variety of willow called Crispa (annularis), aka ringleaf or corkscrew willow.

  3. Have a look at: salix babylonica

  4. Your tree isSalix matsudana the Chinese Willow, Peking Willow

And is not ( Corkscrew Willow ) cultivar  'Tortuosa'

A fast growing, upright, deciduous tree, with curiously twisted shoots. Leaves are bright green, lance-shaped, and also twisted. Bears yellow-green catkins. The shoots of this tree are often used in dried arrangements. A very striking tree, especially in winter, so give it a prominent place in the garden.

Be aware that there are numerous variations (and other possible new cultivars)on this species.

If it's only twisted in the leaves it's not the cultivar but the true species.
