Question:

What kind of tree should I get (outdoor, Houston Tx, for shade)?

I don't mind if it doesn't grow really fast, but I'd like one that will eventually provide shade, won't lose too many leaves in the fall, and basically will be easy to mow around (no roots up at the surface or anything). I don't know very much about trees, but the one that was in my front yard died and we had to cut it down, so I'd like to put one in my back yard. Also, what is a good price to pay someone to plant it for me? Thanks.

  1. The Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston (near the historic homes by the river) has a lot of pretty trees that are great for your area.  Check it out and see for yourself which tree you would like.  Some may even have names by them.  There were so many nice trees in the city yet I didn't make mental notes of what they were.  You live in a region where a lot of good trees grow.

You could also contact your extenstion office.  The Master Gardeners there would be up-to-date on the local flora.
