Question:

The Maple tree in my back yard is dieing from a fungus that kills it bit by bit. I don't know the name of it, but it blocks the tree's circulatory system, and then branches start to die. There is no cure, and all I can do is have it cut down. I'm told that if I plant another Maple tree there, it will die also.

So, what kind of tree should I plant that will be resistant to this fungus? It needs to be a good shade tree, and somewhat fast growing. As far as climate, I'm about an hour south of Chicago.

Thanks

  1. Try a Honey Locust.  It's a beautiful light yellow-green color, and fast growing.
