Question:

What kind of tree would be suitable?

After getting rid of some of my laurel hedge-I now have 6ft fencing between me and neighbour, but can see the top half of their conservatory when I sit in my sunlounge

I would like your suggestions on what kind of tree to have to try and cover this-or any other ideas!

It is quite near to the house, so perhaps one that does not have large roots.

Thank you

  1. i would do a tree form bottlebrush. it is evergreen flowers off and on all year and a nice humingbird attracter.

  2. Why not get a nice clematis or wisteria (although wisteria takes a while to flower).  You could put this in a  nice pot (as I am presuming it is up by your patio rather than on the dirt to plant the tree in).  You could put a small trellis on top of your fence and grow the clematis up it, that way adding some colour to it but also not having the branches of a tree so close to your house?

    :)

  3. I don't think they'll be spending much time in the top half of their conservatory.I wouldn't plant any trees, in any case you'll lose the sun.. Add a bit of trellis on top of the fence, i think you can go up to 8 ft, then plant some Ivy.

  4. Leeland cypress are great for privacy.   They grow fast, evergreen and thick branches!  If you just need 1 or 2 tall trees an oak is always good but very slow growing.  River Birch is fast but not as dense foliage.  What about some good ole pine trees?

  5. Bamboo.

  6. It is hard to say without knowing what climate zone you are in.  You could look up what trees grow well in your climate zone, then choose one that you like.  Make sure to look at the growth habits and choose one that will not grow too large, while it may look nice while young, some trees grow quite big.  Go to sunset gardens, to find out your zone: http://www.sunset.com/sunset/garden/arti...

this can be kinda vauge, so it might be better to google climate zone and your city.  Hope this helps
