I know that palmettos grow there, but are there specific trees that don't? Is the soil inhospitiable to oaks or spruces or maples? Or does it allow every type of tree to grow?

    Maybe this will help.

  2. Big beautiful Magnolia trees.  Up near the mountains you get the traditional northern trees.

  3. There is in no way I could write out a complete list for you here. I can however tell you this. There are 35+  different species of Oaks growing in South Carolina, 6+ different species of Spruce, 14+ different species of Maple and 8 species of Magnolia. In my  very incomplete dendrology notebook  (The botanical study of trees and other woody plants) I have about 470 different species of trees and shrubs with the majority being trees. If you would like some common names on some of the oaks, maples, or spruces I would be happy to give you some. So all in South Carolina is hospitable to many tree species.
