  1. It's a slider of some sort. The posters who said males eventually get longer front claws are correct.

    Change the water often!

He needs a warm basking site. Can you arrange for him to spend summers outside in a kiddie pool in natural sunlight? They are so much happier outdoors. But watch out for herons and raccoons, bring him in at night.

He needs to be able to choose from shade, sun, dry and wet areas in his home. Provide all of the above so he can regulate his own temperature. Some feeder guppies would provide a challenge for him.

  2. Looks like my red-eared sliders!  It's hard to tell from the picture if it's a male or female.  Females tend to be larger than males, with a thicker tale.  Males tend to have much longer nails than females.  And unfortunately, no it is not unusual for them to eat their own p**p.  Kind of disgusting, but I love them anyways!

  3. No, it's not what they said it was. It is an eastern river cooter. I have one. It's very hard to tell if it's a male or a female at this age. Once it's about 2 years old you can tel by the front claws. Males have long claws used for flirting with the females and getting their attention. Get some crickets and worms and cut them into a little bit more of a manageable size for the little guy. Put them on his basking area and he will eat that. He will need a 125 gallon tank as an adult. Mine is about 5 inches and he's in a 55 gallon, but I need to step up the size. These are very easy to take care of if you know how to. Here are some good pages to read if you plan on keeping him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudemys_c... http://repticzone.com/caresheets/1592.ht... http://repticzone.com/caresheets/212.htm...

  4. i would say yellow belly slider keep basically the same as a red ear slider

  5. It is a red ear slider..looks just like my baby tidbit. Look on the sides of his head to see if there is red spots on them. I dont know how to tell if it is a male or female. I dont know myself what mine is. I have never seen mine eat his p**p..but i would not be suprised. Make sure you have the turtle a place to get out and sun under a lamp. They have to bask. They are awesome little turtles..love mine!
