It's my first car and I will be driving a lot so fuel economy and reliability are key. My current thoughts are Honda CIvic, Fit....... Suggestions?

  1. You would be making an excellent choice, if you went for the Civic or the Fit.

  2. The Honda Fit would be my first recommendation, followed by the Toyota Yaris.  Both easily fall into your price range (both new and used), both are ultra-reliable, and both get awesome gas mileage.  I'd test drive them both and choose the one you like the best, as its only very minor things that separate the two.

  3. though there is no way you can find a new civic for 14K you may find a used one. I do not recommend the fit, test drive it and you'll find out why. I've been driving civics for a while, and now I bought a 08 Civic sedan, its a great car.

  4. Either of those Honda's is an excellent choice.

Also take a look at a Toyota Echo or Corolla/Matrix ( used ) or a Yaris ( new ).  Nissan Versa or Sentra, Hyundai Accent or Elantra

  5. i bought my first car a few months ago. i bought an 05 civic for 13K and i love it!!  its sporty, the insurance is cheap and i get about 34/38 mpg. the good thing about a honda is that they are cheap to buy, cheap to maintain/repair and they last forever!

    best of luck

  6. Definetly you can get a good honda civic for that price range, Year 2000 and up, I just bought a 01 Civic EX for 6400 my first car too.

  7. 2000 Honda Civic SI Coupe - Fast, Fun, and Good Gas Mileage

  8. This may not be the way to go for everyone but for $14 or $15K you may be able to get yourself a decent used entry-level Mercedes or Audi. I got a well-equipped 2003 Mercedes C-series sport coupe a couple years ago for $14,5k and have been very happy with it.  Everyone thinks it cost at least twice as much and it gets lots of compliments and attention (along with some jealousy).  Just be sure to spend the little bit of extra money to have every inch of it checked by a trustworthy and qualified mechanic before you buy -- not just engine components but also things like suspension, moonroof, doorlocks, etc.  The repair costs are a bit higher (probably 25-40% more than an American car) but I think it's well worth it in the overall experience.
