What kind of vegatable can this be?

My son wanted to plant strawberries, but, now the plants he bought are about 2 feet tall and have yellow flower buds on them and teeny green bulbs. I have never seen strawberry plants that grow this way, but, cannot figure out what they are! i'm thinking either tomatoes or some kind of pepper, but, i've never grown anything before so I am lost. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it sounds like tomatoes. Are the leaves hairy and slightly lobed? If so, a tomato is most likely.

Would you have a picture? It would make it easier to identify.
