I use norton antivirus and webroot spy sweeper everyday to secure my computer but i think i still have a virus. could the progams have missed something?

I use limewire so that might be the reason but how can i get rid of it?

some of the problems my computer has is that it runs slow, it gets hot, when it starts up different programs appear that didn't appear before, and just a while ago lots of pages of the internet explorer started popping up and didn't stop.

please help....and i will love you forever. ...and you know... give you best answer.=]

  1. When i got a virus what i did was. Restart the computer then press f8 that lets u pick, normal, safe mode. Pick safemode and that  turns off all of the drivers so the virus is not on, in safe mode. then scan for the virus. becasue its easier to scan for a virus when the virus is not running. and hopefullt hat the anti-virus software picks it up.

  2. alright to answer both of your questions:

the popping up of pages is definitely a sign of a virus or spy-ware, so you definitely want to scan for rootkits, because that's what may be hiding from your virus scanner. go download avg rootkit scanner, and that way you can make sure it's not a rootkit. if it isn't and you really want it to stop you  can always reformat your hard disc. this is relatively simple if you really don't need all the stuff on your computer. just pop in the vista or xp disc into your disc drive, and then hit f12 or whatever it tells you too in the booting screen where it shows the bios and who built your computer. then click boot from disc, and follow the steps. remember if you dont back up you'll loose all of your information and drivers, but if you're desperate, this is what you're going to need to do.

note that norton is a notoriously bad scanner and you should not use it. get either bit defender, mcafee, or eset security suite.

  3. According to an article by the Washington Post,

Norton Antivirus had one of the worst average response times

for providing virus definition updates based on the worst virus outbreaks,

lagging behind every major competitor, including NOD32, Kaspersky,

Quick Heal, F-Secure, Sophos, Avira, Trend Micro, F-Prot, Panda,

Protector Plus, AVG, avast!, ClamWin, and McAfee.

Symantec/Norton Live update are responsible for BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death )

for millions of PC in China

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4. It now protects against spyware, rootkits,

and other forms of nonvirus malicious software. Best of all, it's free for personal use.
