  1. Your prescription is minus -2.77???

    I think its -2.75 D. coz the prescription increases in steps of 0.25 .e.g. 1.25 then 1.50 then 1.75 then 2.00 etc.

    anyways. coming to the point.

If its minus prescription it is Myopia or short sightedness/near sightedness, which means that you can see things which are close to you or near you and objects which are distant appear blurry.

20/20 does not always means 100% vision

20/20 is only the quantitative anlysis of visual acuity.

there are other factors/components of vision too. e.g. contrast, colour vision etc.

  2. Short sighted! same as me...it sux x

  3. We can't tell exactly what your vision rating is by the -2.77 prescription and as you now know it's call near sighted, but the numerical values (such as 20/20) mean you see at "x" feet what the general population sees at 20ft (so if you were 20/40 it means what you see perfectly at 20ft, a normal 20/20 person could see perfectly from 40ft).

  4. Myopia is being short-sighted. % of vision has to do with ability to see and not just the eye's focal length capabilities, like the 20/20 you mention.

  5. You are near sighted, that is the term used by the eye care professionals.

    you are not 20/20, sorry.

  6. here's how it is:

if you can see far but not near, you are farsighted

YOU can see near but not far, so you are nearsighted

as far as the 20/20. imperfect vision is measured differently than that so it uses things like -2.77 like you already know.

20/20 actually means that you can see a 20 in object 20 feet away

  7. Your prescription was most likely written out for -2.75, as the traditional glasses RX is written in quarter diopter increments. This correction means that you are myopic, or nearsighted. Myopic patients have trouble with their distance and need a minus lens to bring the light back into focus on the retina in order to see far away.

If the doctor has done their job right you should see 20/20 vision with your glasses. Without your correction however, your visual acuity will be closer to 20/80 or 20/100. This means that at twenty feet (the distance from the exam chair to the eye chart) you can only see what "normal vision" can see at 80 feet, or 100 feet.

Don't get too caught up on the numbers though. With a prescription like this I'm sure you've had glasses in the past and know that with minus lenses the edges of the lens are thicker, so look for frames that will minimize this... or if you are a candidate I'd suggest trying contact lenses.

  8. It is called Myopia
