  1. I would suggest that you join an organisation like the Red Cross.   This might give you a way in to helping in a hospital.   A hospital might be a bit wary of allowing an individual 14 year old to do anything in case of accidents and subsequent legal problems.

  2. there isn't really anything they can give you but if you go to your nearest shelter or american red cross with an adult they can find somethin for you to do in your neighborhood

  3. I volunteered at a hospital when I was about 14, and I was a candy striper. (It was only about 10 years ago, but I'm not sure if they still call them that.) Anyway, from what I remember, I would be given a floor, and did things like filling everyone's water pitcher. (Each patient had their own water pitcher & cups.) Sometimes I was given clerical work to do for medical records. It's not overly exciting, but it is worthwhile volunteer experience. Good luck.

  4. 14 year olds are sometimes able to do volunteer work at hospitals.  Contact each hospital directly by just calling them and asking for the Volunteer Director or Volunteer Office.

You don't have to have experience.  My daughters both volunteered at our hospitals when they were around your age and I did when I was young.  You just need to check with each hospital to see if they have a volunteer program and the age requirements.

If this doesn't work out, then you can make a list of other types of volunteer work you would be interested in doing and follow the same process of just calling them directly to find out what opportunities they have for you.

In our city we have a Volunteer Center and an organization called the "United Way." Check the phone book or internet to see if you have them in your town.  They keep lists of volunteer "jobs" for all ages and work with all of the nonprofit charities in your city so they know what groups can use your help.  If your city is not big enough to have either a Volunteer Center or United Way, talk to your people at your church and your parent's work to find volunteer opportunities they might be aware of.

Don't give up until you have found something because volunteers are desperately needed and it will be the most rewarding work of your life!

    Good luck!   Teresa
