I'm currently 17 I have my GED and I'm working on being a volunteer at the animal shelter and providence hospital. Other than that I have no volunteer experience or jobs. I'm going to college to start basic ed. What do you think my chances of getting in would be?

  1. The Peace Corps will take people without a degree, but 92% of all PCVs have a bachelor's at least; 28% have a Master's.

The 8% who don't have a degree have 10 - 50 years of expereince in a field a host country has asked for, usually farming or small engine repair.

Your chance of getting in now is nil. Your chance of getting in after you graduate is better.

WHAT you volunteer at is not as important as the fact you DID volunteer; they want to see that you have other goals in life besides money.

  2. Your chances of getting in are none at all.  Peace Corps requires a minimum of a BACHELORS DEGREE.. so you need about 4 more years of education before they will even talk to you.

It's worth the effort though.  My wife went to Peru as a Peace Corp volunteer and stayed on for 15 years.
