Question:

What kind of wasps do I have? They are very aggressive!?

These wasps seem to build nests everywhere possible. The corner of my garage, under railings of my porch, at the top of my roof and near my parents bathroom window. They are very persistent. There nest are brown and if the nest is small its like cardboard looking. If its small its like a sick with a 2 honeycombs attached to it. If its big then its horrible. We haven't had wasps since 2001. This year they are very aggressive. You get within 6 feet of their nest they go after you. I have to watch my dog do her business out of the fear she will get stung. 3 days ago my dog was walking around the back yard and bumps into our patio chair and a wasp came out and I called her back and she's a very fast runner so she didn't get stung. I haven't tampered with the nest yet. But as soon as Tropical Storm Fay is over i am going to kill it with this 20 feet away foam that kills them instantly.

Thanks for your help!

  1. I know that we are not anyway near each other in the Nation so I don't know if I have the same type of wasps or not.  It kind of sounds like our "Mud Wasp".  However, it may not be, but the bee spray sounds great but if it really is foamy then it may have trouble not spreading out too much from a distance.  They make a wasp spray that shoots a stream near 20 feet that you don't have trouble at all hitting the target and it fries them on contact.  When you spray make sure the best you can that you are aimed right at them because they won't give you many seconds to find the target.  Good luck and be careful...

  2. Hard to say, but it sounds like you probably have several different nests of yellowjackets.

With that many nests, it might be worth your while to hire a professional exterminator to locate and eliminate all the nests for you.

  3. you probily have dirt gabboler bees there nest is brown and there aggrisve iv been stung by them trying to shut my gate i wansnt to close to them either and they still came after me

  4. I can understand your concern, but keep this in mind, and when you go to eliminate them, you should possibly NOT destroy them "all",

That type of wasp is a species of paper wasp.  They are actually very beneficial animals and do a great deal of good.  They are just trying to protect their nest.  They help pollinate the flowers and other plants, but their most important role is to keep the spider population under control.  They hunt and find spiders in your garden.  After stinging the spider it is only paralyzed, so they take it to their nest and stuff it inside a chamber, lay a single egg on it and then seal it up.  The larvae feeds on the spider, pupates, and out climbs a new wasp.  Then the whole thing starts all over again.

If you MUST destroy the wasp nests, remove the ones only close to your home, but try and leave the others alone.

If a wasp comes near you, just stand still, let it investigate, and it will leave.

  5. They are definitely NOT paper wasps.  These sound like your everyday wasp.  They are VERY aggressive and give a painful sting.  They CAN sting over and over.  They WILL sting for no apparent reason.  I would recommend getting rid of the ones around and near your house.  the small nests will become larger ones with more attackers.
