Question:

What kind of wild bird eggs are they?

A small bird has built a nest in a hanging fern on my porch. It has laid 5 small light blue eggs in it (maybe 1/2" across). Evidently, another bird has come along and laid 2 slightly larger eggs in it that are also light blue but heavily speckled brown. I have a feeling that the larger eggs are meant to hatch, kick out the original inhabitants, and get the original nest builder to raise them. Any one have any input? Sorry no pics, just found them this morning as I was headed out. This is in North Carolina.

  1. I think they are carolina wrens......thet always like to be near people...consider yourself lucky........do not bother it.......

  2. The larger, speckled eggs are probably those of the brown headed cowbird.
