I am going to refinish my floorboards and need to fill a couple of gaps, but can't tell what kind of wood it is. I think it might be pine, but am not sure. Any ideas?

  1. Traditionally hardwood was and still is used for hardwood flooring, although pine is not unheard of.  I have an old house and it has original maple floors in the upper story.  Many period homes have maple, oak (red and white), hickory, beech, and even black walnut in some cases.  It's hard to tell without a picture of the wood.  I suggest taking a picture and going to a flooring store to ask for some advice.  They will also be able to give you some good tips for refinishing these floors to make them look like new again.
