What kind of wood can I burn in my outdoor fire pit?

I have a fire bowl inside of a table and I would like to roast marshmellows for my kids tonight what kind of wood should I use? I don't want a bunch of smoke around the kids. Any ideas??????

Best material is a dry hardwood such as oak, maple, birch.  Avoid pine except as an initial firestarter.  Damp wood will smoke alot.  Old pallets are usually made of oak and are safe to use.  Avoid most other processed wood, especially if it's painted.

Dry wood smokes less, but any wood is going to smoke.  Green wood has more moisture and sap & that makes it smoke more.

Pretty much any dry wood. Do not use plywood or painted wood. Pine burns fast and very hot so not good for marshmallows. If you use twigs and such from around the yard, just light them earlier so they will form coals and the smoke will be gone before use.
