Question:

What kind of wood can I use to build my rabbit hutch?

Yeah we have a whole plan for it, and our rabbits are litter trained we just have to move them outside. They should use the litterbox soon enough instead of just peeing in the corners. But just in case we are going to line the bottom about 4 inches up with that cardboard plastic stuff which is waterproof, so no worries about ammonia. I just need to find out what wood is safe for them.

  1. save your money -create a habitat that will provide lotsa shelter from weather & predators.  your rabbit can safely chew empty toilet paper tubes, cardboard boxes, and small blocks of untreated wood.

  2. Lol, as Anna Banana stated{'m her friend, who's owned bunnies forever}

    Never ever ever use Ceder, ceder is a very harm full type of wood, that can kill your bunny if chewed on, it also contains toxic smells, therefore even if your bunny didn't chew on it, but smelled it, he could become quite sick.

    I suggest simply using Unsprayed/Unglazed Pine, or Aspen plywood.

    Also, for flooring, never use chicken wire, we used this type of wire, that has square flooring just big enough for droppings to fall through, maybe 1/2 inch wide, possibly less.

    Good luck building it! It'll be fun!

  3. It is likely that with the wooden enclosure, your rabbit will urinate in the corners of the cage. The wood will soak it up and the ammonia will gather. This is not healthy for your rabbit. It will take a long time for this to occur, so if you do choose the wooden cage, your rabbit will not be ill all the time; it is just something to consider.
