I plan to build shelves for my closet, but wish to use some kind of wood (with a special coating) or other material that's repellant to _all kinds_ of insects to keep them out of my books (silverfish, anyone?) and movies and other objects that'll be stored in there. Please let me know what would be best to use. Thanks.

  1. Metal would be your best bet.

  2. They make plywood that has been treated to be resistant to termites.  That's about it.  The best bet to rid yourself of silverfish is to call a pest control company and have them treat your attic.  This a common harborage for silverfish and they will come down your air intake vents and pipe chases to feed on paper, carboard, etc. in your home.

  3. wood no.....why not use the new composite material..will not rot..bug cant eat it....and very strong.....

    lic. gen. contractor

  4. Repellant, no.  Consider other measures for control of your insect populations, especially humidity and temperature control.   Freezing all of the contents of the closet ("freezer fumigation") will help prevent carryover from currently infested materials.
