  1. cedar is great and hickory two of the strongest and longest lasting lumber you can find

  3. Wood with a high resin content.  Do not be misled by references to hardwood - Yew is a softwood and Balsa is a hardwood. Durability purely depends on the natural resistance to moisture and the consequent agents of decay when the sugars in waterlogged wood are then able to support rot or insect attack.

    Examples are Oak, or Western Red Cedar (heartwood) or Teak, as are any of the tropical hardwoods, although you should check if using them that there are no sustainability issues.

    Resistance of other types can of course be increased by pressure impregnation or painting.

  4. lignum vitae,or greenheart - will not rot,even in water,and it doesn`t float very well either......
