  1. UGly stix's are by far the best ever.

  2. well, depending on your budget, ugly stick are cheap and very hard to break, but they dont have backbone if you are going to bring in something big. overall, since catfish are pretty heavy, ugly stick are more likely to bend in circle, so more work for you. so if you going to go with walmart special, then look for something which curve on the first half and more straight toward the handle end. this case, when you lift, the rod actually pull line. unlike ugly stick, when you lift, rod just curve or bend first, so u actually have to lift pretty high to get same result as a rod with backbone. i would recommend Berkeley Series One or Lighting series. or abu garcia have one casting rod which is pretty good and cheap as well.

  3. I like the 7 foot medium action rods myself. I also like a reel with as many ball bearings as I can find and a super smooth drag system. I look for a rod that can handle 1 - 3 oz. lures with no problem, this way I know I can lob out my cut bait chunks and not break the rod doing it.

And when I do hook up with a nice catfish I know I can reel it in with confidence. Tight lines!

  4. well h**l boy use a cane pole or a bamboo pole

  5. For a full easy set-up get a ugly stick at wal-mart. All you have to do is put like 15-20 lb. test line on. Use a chunk of minnow on a hook w/ a sinker, and throw it in. Tip always put bait in same place. so they don't get confused.

  6. I have several, but my favorite by far is the Ugly Stik Catfish rod. I fish the Mississippi River for big blues and have had a vast number of rods broken on big cats. That Ugly Stik has proven over the years to be the best choice I made as far as my catfishing gear goes. I have had Ugly Stiks bent to the point of almost making a circle, but not one has broken yet. That's what I need when I'm out there. Some people do not like Ugly Stiks one bit, but there are times when they really do shine. Catfishing is one of them. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores...
