Enjoy getting dirty or not having a bath for days, be ready to be bitten by a vast variety of bugs, be available to go where needed and have skilled training in weapons, bombs, silence decoy look good in camo. and be ready to kill.

Mercenaries are basically soldiers for hire.  Most of them are ex armed forces.  You need the skills that you can only acquire by being trained professionally as a soldier.
