Question:

What kinda of barrel should I buy for my Tippmann A5?

I have a tippman A5 with a response trigger and stock barrel (the barrel has that weird quater turn thing instead of actual threads. if that makes a difference.). I want to make my gun as long range as possible. I have shot my friends A5 that has a flatline barrel, and i liked it. But i was wondering if like a 18" or 22" barrel would be even more accurate. Also some of the 18" and 22" barrels say they're rifled... would rifling make a paintball swerve off course, or does it work good? I'm up for suggestions on other barrel options too. Thanks.

  1. DONT BUY ANYTHING LONGER THAN 16", even 16" is a little long, a 14" will be just as accurate as a 22", and a 22" could just slow down the ball and reduce range/accuracy. If you want long range, flatline would be best. Rifled barrels (the only good ones are the armson stealth barrels) are decent, they are very accurate, but about the same range as a normal barrel. The last choice would be an apex barrel, they work like a flatline and you can adjust them to curve the ball around corners.

    so:

non rifled barrels: nothing over 16"

( J&J performance makes awsome barrels)

    Rifled barrels: Armson Stealth 16/13"

Flatline: Good barrel, but paint picky.

Apex: Decent barrel, but i never liked them and i doubt you would ever try to shoot around corners anyways.

  2. I'd go with a flatline. the apex gives you more control of the ball and better distance (slightly), but it's not worth the hassle unless you can devote lots of time practicing.

Don't get a long barrel. It's gonna make your gun eat more gas (since it'll take more air to push the ball out of the barrel). I'd say a 14" barrel is ideal.

Rifled barrels are also worthless since the projectile in this case is a sphere, and it will more than likely curve a little bit.

I recommend buying a barrel kit, because matching the exact paintball caliber to the bore of the barrel affects a great deal of your gun's accuracy. I recommend the smart parts freak kit. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. I like it so much I have a back for ALL my guns.
