Hey, im looking to get my first motorcycle. I want a cruiser style. Something cheaper and smaller. I'm only 5'4 so I cant take somethign huge and tall. I weigh about 115 too, would this be a problem? I've been looking at a honda rebel but i might want something with a little more power since some of my female friends have already said they want to ride on the back. plus, i like to go fast.

any ideas would be great. also, if you can tell me about how tall it is to the seat and if weight would be problematic.

thanks!

  1. New or Used?

And to Kyle's list, the "standard" which IMHO offer the best of both worlds - they can be pretty quick - but also fairly comfortable.

I'd recommend going with the 250 cc bike until you really get some miles under your belt - then you can consider getting a bigger bike to take people for rides. An inexperienced rider giving someone else a ride isn't a great idea. You are at fault if anything happens to them. Also - don't forget a helmet an leathers - and then a second set for any guest you want to take for a ride - presumably you care about their welfare, too.

  2. Yamaha vstar 650. go to the manufacturers website they have the seat heights for which ever bike you want.  go to a dealer and sit on one that would be the best way to know if you are tall enough.

  3. Try an M50 Suzuki, they are plenty enough power and will go fast enough. If you want a Honda you could get a Shadow. The Yamaha Vstar 650 or a Kawasaki Vulcan 800. Lots of options, all around the same price range, just depends on which one you like.

  4. Well, you're confusing yourself. You want to go fast, but want a cruiser. Cruisers are for cruising. Sportbikes are for going fast and scaring yourself. Think of it as the amusement park. A crusier is the tour bus that takes you to see the sights. A sportbike is the Superman 88mph rollercoaster that does a 80 degree drop. Sportbikes are arguably less comfortable. I prefer the sportbike feel, the wind takes pressure off your wrists, and I hate being laid back on the bike, epsecially forward controls.

  5. I am about your height.  Any average size bike will be a problem.  Most street / racer will start at 30 inches (seat height).

I used to own Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD (cruiser).  It is just 25 inches at seat height.  It is easy to ride, and yet enough power for 2 riders and hwy riding.

    Good Luck...

  6. you could get any bike! you get lowering kits or most bikes and also get low seats for them.

  7. You should definitely check out the Honda Shadow VLX.  I've owned one for three years, and it's easy to handle (for a cruiser) and reliable.  It'll do highway speeds and has a seat height of 25.6 inches.  They're a pretty popular bike (out where I live at least), so finding a used one won't be too difficult.  It comes in the standard and deluxe version, the latter having extra chrome.

    Ride safe!

  8. Go to some shops and sit on the bikes to see what fits.

When you find a bike suitable to your liking, look for a used model.

  9. Kawasaki Vulcan 500.

You might also check out a used Yamaha Virago 535 or 750.

  10. I suggest you look at the Kymco Venox and Hyosung GV250 these are two really nice cruisers, they will out run a rebel  any day of the week. They are both very comfortable motorcycles and a small person can ride them. They are not imported junk and have a two year warranty. I own a Venox and can peg the speedo at over as 100. they take two up real good and are priced right.
