hey fellow audiophiles! I have a brand new sealed box for my 2 12" type X's, the entire box is 3/4" MDF, & measures 13.5H, 32"W, 13TD, 15BD, each chamber is 1.25cu ft, 1.05cu ft with the sub top mounted(big enough for them?, Alpine suggest 1.0cu ft for a sealed box. Do you have the same subs in a sealed box? what the measurements on yours? You guy(& chicks) know how large the motor assembly is on these b*stards and the mounting holes around the sub looks big enough to use thick screws. One guy said i should use lag bolts but what do you guys think i should use? What size? type? Please be specific as possible.

Thanks all!

  1. Really it is not going to be so vital what size screws you use.  You could use the standard screws that come with the sub or just some wood screws.  Your subs are not going to be hitting so hard that they will need enormous screws.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. Your best option is T-nuts http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.... used with machine screws.  The advantage is that you can remove and replace them as often as you want without damaging the wood.  If you just s***w into the MDF with wood screws, it will wear out if you need to remove and replace the sub a few times.

You can also find machine screws with security heads, which helps protect your speakers from theft.
