  1. try something long

  2. For a first timer, B-z boards are great because they are foam on the top so you wont get hurt if your face slams down on the board, and the fins are also really sturdy so they won't break as easily.

  3. i would say a 9 ft its like standing on a boat its so easy

  4. You didn't say anything about how experienced you are. Go to a surfshop and discuss it with the pro. He/she will fit you with a board.

  5. You're a skinny guy so you'll be able to ride anything you really want to start with.  If you're looking for the easiest to learn on - go with a longboard.  If your ultimate goal is to move towards a shortboard, then go with a shortboard.  6'0 - 6'4" and at least 18.75" wide would be a good sized board to help you learn to surf if you wanted to go only shortboard.

If you were bigger I'd recommend a fun board but at your weight, there's no point really.  Why not buy a decent longboard off craigslist ($300-400 range) and after you get the basics down, sell it and put it down for a shortboard?
