I want a TV 25-32 inches that can be mounted on my bedroom wall--what do I need to be looking for? Does this call for major "damage" to the walls or is the mount thing just basically screwed into the wall? thanks

  1. I assume we are talking about a flat-panel type TV, not a "Picture tube" set.

Most of these are equipped for wall mounting - check with the vendor, or look in the manual for any set you are thinking of buying.

Wall mounts can be simple and cheap (a little bit of up-down tilt) or fancy and expensive (tilt, swivel and swing around).  The mount you choose will depend on your budget and your needs.  If the TV will always be watched from one place (lying on your bed, for example), the simplest mount will probably do.

Mounts are rated for various TV weights.  You need to get one that is able to support the weight of your set.  Yeah, I know: DUH!  But sometimes people miss the simplest, most obvious things.

The mount will come with instructions about placing it on the wall.  You will need to locate a stud or other solid support in your wall.  This can be done by knocking on the wall and listning for the most muffled, solid sound.  Then test with a small drill or s***w to MAKE SURE before you start full-blown attachment.

Damage to the wall should be minimal, especially if you use a drill to get through the outer layer of plaster/wallboard.  If you need to remove the mount later on, the holes can be filled with patching compound.
