I was planning a trip to see my neice this summer but I can't. I've quit driving altogether, except to go to work (I needed to walk and ride my bike to lose weight anyway) and I'm having to plan all my fishing trips way in advance so I can save my money just to make the 40 mile journey to the mountains. I'm looking at quitting work and bolstering my small business so I can work from home....those are the big changes.

  1. I ride my bike to work (weather permitting...we have had a lot of rain and snow the last two weeks)its only a couple of miles each way. Other then that I run all my errands in the town (13 miles away)at the same time, we plan any extra trips ( to visit family and such) way in advance. We are already trying to figure out if we are going to go on vacation (300km and a

42$bridge fee) or just stay around here.

  2. I transfered to a town that i could get a cheap apartment close to a branch of the company i work for.

i know it seems like i spent alot of money, since i moved about 70 miles, but in the long run it's going to save alot.

i used to drive a half hour to work but i couldn't afford to anymore and i was going to have to quit my job.

i spent about $1300 on the move but i now live five minuets away from work.

and since i'm driving a 6 cyl truck it makes a world of differnce.

  3. Good question.

When I go to work I try to take library books that need to go back, the dry cleaning to drop off, my grocery list so I can stop at the store when I have a break, pack a lunch because I have a split shift and coming home isn't always an option.

Some days I take my bike with me to work so when I have time to do errands I walk or ride my bike instead of drive the car. I'm sure there is more I could be doing.

  4. I am in my fiftys and we have had two cars forever,we live in toronto and we sold one and only use the other to go out of town, now we use transit every day somedays it sucks other days its good but at the end of the month we now have a few bucks to go on small trips and buy a few things that before we could not afford, maybe this is good

  5. Since the beginning of April I've been making the 12 mile trip to work on my bicycle. The first three rides were tough on the legs but after that the pain was gone and I actually began feeling exhilarated and refreshed by the time I got to work (after the shower of course <g>). As a side benefit I've lost nine pounds in one month!

If you're not in the best of physical condition don't sweat it. Find a commuter lot a few miles from your place of work and start riding from there. Then gradually move your starting point back a mile or two until you can leave the gas guzzler in the garage and start your commute from your home.

It's really a wonderful feeling knowing that the oil companies no longer have power over you. So go get a bike if you don't have one, get in the best shape of your life and really stick it to 'em!

  6. Wow, you must be on a really tight budget.

I think I'll just spend my days on here answering questions.   Oooppss I already do that!

Well, I could walk, but the closest town is 5 miles away.   Even too far for bike riding.  Ok I could get a motorcycle, now that's what I want anyway.  Not too big, though.

I hope the prices are a little lower after Thanksgiving, I want to go to Texas and visit my aunt and cousins.  Guess I better start saving now just in case.

  7. I just attempt to not go anywhere unless I HAVE to go there like work.  Other than that I go straight home.  My House is SPOTLESS now.  Other than that I purchased a motorcycle and am repairing it.  Today I thought of stopping the repair and purchasing an Electric motor and modifying the chassis to support it.  Lots of planning involved....
