  1. A whole lot of them. Beagles, German Shepherds, you name it.

  2. While hounds are an obvious choice I have heard of collies, australian shepherds, and flat coated retrievers doing extremally well in search and rescue work

  3. if your teach then they will learn.. some better then others however any breed can learn at the club im with a rat terrier was the first and only ever in fl to earn a ud title

  4. like beagels and german shepards

  5. Bloodhound.

  6. all dogs can recognize human scent but some are better for long distance tracking- look up on AKC under breeds

  7. i would say any kind  of hound dog (like a blue tick hound) could be trained to do it but the best would be a bloodhound

  8. any breed can in theory, but realistically some are better than others. ALL hound breeds, bully breeds, and mastiff breeds are going to drool A LOT! any dog with loose facial skin and drooping jaws drools. best tracking breeds are the scent hounds:

    bloodhound (like you mentioned)

    bassett hound

    beagle

    foxhound

black and tan coonhound (or any variety of coonhound)

    some good tracking breeds:

    german shepard

    lab/golden retriever

    pointers/setters

and yes, bully breeds (like pit bull, boxer, bulldog, bull terrier etc)

  9. I, too, hear that bloodhounds have the most sensitive sense of smell, but all dogs can be taught to track.  Check into a class in your area through the AKC or UKC or hunting clubs. You can, also, find books at pet stores, bookstores and ask your vet for suggestions.  Vets are very knowledgeable and are an often overlooked resource.

  10. Long distance tracking of humans:

Bloodhounds, Coonhounds (Bluetick,Walker, English, Redbone), Beagles are best if you are man-trailing (criminal or escaped convict - some prisons in the South used a Bluetick/Bloodhound cross for years) but any breed can be trained to find people. Look at all the Search and Rescue Dogs that find people and help get them out ( they are German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Labs, Pit Bulls, etc) - as long as they get the right training, any dog could find a human, but some breeds excell better than others.

  11. just about any breed can be taught to track.  but they usually only train the ones that show that they are good at it.

  12. alot, beagles, blood hound, rottweilers

    -D U M B a s s to whoever marked me negative

  13. There are many breeds used for Search & Rescue

    Dobermans

    Shepherds

    Labs

    Beagles

    Giant Schnauzers

    Etc.....

  14. My german shepherd retired, he was a police dog, and he was pretty much the best. Every body was amazed with him!

But blood hounds are very good too.

I would prefer a coonhound, or a german shepherd

  15. Any breed of dog can track human scent if they are trained to do so.

Scent hounds, in general, are better at tracking than other breeds.

There are many breeds that are used for search and rescue tho, they are all trained to look for human scent.

  16. Pretty much ALL dogs can track, my pitbull, rotti, and doberman track :]

  17. Any dog in the Hound group can track human scent. Beagles also. Almost any dog can be trained to track some are just better than others.

  18. all dogs can track anything.  especially hounds and other hunting dogs (like spaniels)

my golden can find just about everything, including 1 wild mushroom in 3 acres of land.  runs right to it.

  19. There are many scent hounds, of which the bloodhound has the most specialized talent and exceptional nose. Here is a good list of the scent hounds>

German shepherd dogs,  Malinois and Dobermans are also great at tracking. Retrievers are great at search and rescue.

My little Doxie mix does a great job! When we are hiking, she can find any of our group when we ask her to..

Bloodhounds can track the very old scent, as well as track through running water.
