  1. A #10 envelope is best, something that is a little thicker looks and feels more professional. Oh, and always write out the addresses by hand. It is more sincere.

I used something like this: http://www.actionenvelope.com/ae/control...

I picked the square flap because it is different but not over the top, and it always helps to stand out. If your resume is bright white, then your envelope should be as well.

You can find the #10 business envelopes at Target, Walmart, and various drug stores. They don't usually have a wide variety, but if all else fails... just go with the plain white without the blue security print.

  2. You want to use a 9 x 12 envelope because you are mailing your headshot/resume which will measure 8 x 10. Never ever fold it.  It does not matter what color the envelope is. In every casting office I have worked in the interns or assistants that are opening the envelopes are opening them so quickly they never take notice of the color and then the envelope goes right in the trash.

Just make sure your handwriting is neat and whatever you do do not misspell the name of the casting director/agent, etc you are sending it to.

  3. Yes, use a larget envelope. NEVER fold your headshot. Color doesn't matter, but I do know actors who use clear envelopes so whoever is opening it can see it immediately. This is in the NY/LA markets though where actors will do anything to stand out.

  4. If you're sending a 10 x 8 picture you need to send it in one of those sturdy A4 sized envelopes with the letter and CV paperclipped to it.
