I have lived on my own for a long time now, but I always find I am missing things I should have gotten. Me and my husband (and child) are about to move into a new house and I want to start fresh. So since it was never answered to me when I was young, I am asking now. What items does a person who is going out to live on their own for the first time need? (This way I can go shop and get it all and never feel like I am missing things) :) Thanks

  1. Surely you have most everything you need if you have lived on your own for a long time?  If you already know what you are missing..buy those things.

  2. cleaning supplies

    food

    clothes

    furniture

    light bulbs

    towels/ rags/ soap

    brush/ comb

just think of things you can't live without

  3. You will never have all the things you need. When someone says they are moving out on their own and asks what they need, I suggest carrying a small spiral notebook with them for a month. Write down everything you use during that period and be sure to buy the items when you move out.

  4. Kitchen items:

    Dish soap

Dish drainer (if you are handwashing)

    Dish towels, dish cloths

Eating basics: bowls, plates, cups, utensils,

Knives (a few different lengths for veggies, meats, bread, etc)

Paper Towels (and maybe a holder for them)

    Pots, Pans,

    Spatula, Serving spoon

    Bamboo spoons

    Bath

    Bath towels, Hand towel, washcloths

    Bath Rug

    Soap, Shampoo

    Bathroom Cleaner, Toilet Brush

    Toilet Paper

Personal toiletries, face and hair care...

    Bed

    Sheets, Blankets, Pillows

Medicines are always good to have out and ready

Advil/Tylenol for sore muscles from moving/headaches/ whatever

    Vacuum

    Broom

    Mop
