Question:

What kinds of power lines are considered dangerous?

We are considering buying a house with power lines in the back yard. Well, I think they are power lines. They're not the really big metal towers that are up really high. They're on single poles and have about two or three lines on them. Would you consider these the "dangerous" kind?

  1. My mother told me not to play with electricity, Well one day she caught me and grounded me, To this day I am afraid of electricity. lol!

  2. No, it sounds like low-volt street service that we all live with. The magnetic field around them would be very low.  An electric baseboard heater, stove or dryer line would create a much larger field in your home.

As food for thought, it has NEVER been proven that living below even the largest transmission tower can affect your health, though I wouldn't  live there.

  3. the kind with electricity running though them

they are not dangerous until they fall down

Is there a lot of trees around too?

  4. If they are power lines, yes, they could be very dangerous indeed if they break during severe weather conditions.  You have to remember that these lines carry huge amounts of electicity.  If you have a question about what the lines actually are, then you should ask the realtor.  There is no danger to people or property from power lines that are intact.

  5. All power lines are dangerous but, if I'm understand your question correctly, your concerned with the EMF Radiation from Hi-Voltage type power lines. based on your description I don't believe these to be those hi voltage grid type power lines instead it sounds like typical power distribution lines. Not sure where this is but, just about everywhere you have power lines now, most newly built neighborhoods have underground services which eliminate overhead lines. But to answer your question as long as the line stays up on the pole your OK. We normally get more radiation from TVs
