first i would say on the side. then i think what werks is a taco type slsa we make it with 1 can of whole,  diced or crush tomatoes small can then add 1 clove of garlic, diced , a pinch of oregano, 3 green onions chopped  & a small hand full of cilantro & i usually do this in a food processor then you don't have to chop or dice. my husband then likes to add ketchup to his salsa for fried chicken & that is really pretty good

I would try a fruit based salsa such as peach or mango.  Traditionally cranberry sauce is served with chicken/turkey but in India they would use a chutney. You can make your own or purchase one.
