  1. If your camcorder doesn't already have some kind of digital output (either USB or i.Link aka Firewire), then the simple answer is there is no original video format. analog video format's can't really be expressed in a digital form.

If you're going through a TV card..then really, the closest thing you could pick would be an uncompressed video format..which will be massively large. So you'll have to pick a video format that closely matches your target.

As far as resolution, 640x480 is a general good pick to transfer to DVD..if you're doing youtube stuff, you'll want 320x240. As far as the video compression format..this is totally up to you, but remember, most of these formats are lossy and remove subtle bits of video information (much like audio compression).

There's no simple right or wrong answer when going from a TV card..there's a lot of issues of what your computer can handle.

  2. Just use a firewire cable to upload video from ur vcam, since dcr_hc28e is already digital, no need for tvcard w/c may have the capability to convert analog vid to digital

dcr_hc28e, a miniDV vcam, must be FIREWIRE400**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* application while vcam is ON PLAYBACK.

Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase** (Vcam/4pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC (4/ 6pin?), check DVor firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, procure firewire card: pci for pc or pcmcia for laptop.
