  1. Yep, AudioGod has a good answer.

    My favorite knot, and one that every sailor should know is the bowline. However, in this instance it might tighten too much.

    I will also throw out a clove hitch, with two half hitches. Similar to AudioGod's knot.

  5. A bowline... it won't slip or jam, and can be easily released.

    For real ease, pass the mooring line through the ring on the mooring and bring it back to the boat again.  That way, you have both ends secured on your boat, which makes it a lot simpler to cast off the line when it's time to go.
