What lampshade should i get?

My hall is long and narrow, i have off white walls but want to know which is best to make it seem bigger? A long shade or a ball?

  1. A glass chandelier type shade would look good.


  2. As your hall is long and narrow, you've already done the best thing to make it seem bigger by painting the walls a pale colour. (The shape of shade you chose won't do much to make it seem bigger). However I can suggest the following:

    I assume the shade is for a table lamp (rather than wall light), in which case I would recommend going for a tapering rectangle which will sit in nicely with the angles created by the narrow hall.  A ball or cylinder shade would look a little odd, unless complimented by a similar shape already in your hall (e.g. a round table)

    Tip: go for a slightly larger shade than you think you need, and one that sits well with the proportions of the lampbase. Take the lamp with you when you buy the shade so you can try it.  Check you have the correct shade fitting (which you can check against the size of the bulbholder).
