  1. Before Mexico became Spanish it was inhabited by many different Native American tribes, just like the U.S. and South America.

These groups all had their own cultures and languages. The Incas had their own language, the same for the Maya and all the others. Even though Spanish is now the national language, some of these native languages are still spoken, by the way.

  5. Mayan, Nahuatl, Otomi, Tarasco, Purepecha, Totonaco, huasteco, mixteco...

  6. Depending on which indian group they were a part of, they would have spoken their native language.  Mayan family and Nahuatl (aztec) are still commonly used languages among many mexicans.  There are many regional dialects that continue to exist today.

  7. Hello,

Spanish control of Mexico led to the dominance of Spanish, as you know, As many as 100 Native American languages were and are still spoken in Mexico, but no single alternative language prevails. panish. The biggest of the Native American languages is Nahuatl. It is the primary language of more than a million Mexicans and is spoken by nearly one-fourth of all Native Americans in the country. This is followed by Maya, used by 13 percent of Native Americans, and Mixteco and Zapoteco, each spoken by about 7 percent of Native Americans. No other indigenous language is spoken by more than 5 percent of Mexico’s Native Americans.
