I'm Indonesian.

I speak English and Korean language.

I understand Japanese passively.

I can read simple Chinese.

Currently I've started to learn German on my own and thinking to take a class at the Goethe Institute.

I wish to work for the United Nations someday, or in International NGO based in Europe - bottom line, I wish to work in Europe.

Which language should I learn?

I understand that German is not an official language of the UN or in the EU, I chose it primarily because of a personal reason.

A lot of people are telling me not to learn German coz it's not an official language anywhere and all Germans speak English anyway..

So.. what language do you think I should learn? Especially if I want to work inside the EU.

I was considering Spanish, but besides in Spain, it's not really used in the EU, is it? (unless i go to Latin America..)

And, do you think it's useless to learn German for the reason I mentioned above? Is it going to add up a strong point for me to work in the EU if I speak German?

Please help me!

Thank's!! :)

  1. French was once THE official language of some big thing, i think it was the UN. French is used on every continent. I would STRONGLY recommend French, it is still used by lots of government people. Switzerland, Belgium, France, and Luxembourg, which are all Europe countries, use it as a main language. French is a nice language to learn, since it makes it easier to understand spanish (lots of similarities), and it is easy to learn because english comes from french. Hope I've helped you!

  2. I love when a hot hispanic girl says to me "quiero que me hagas el amor"

  3. The (UN) Organization uses six official languages in its intergovernmental meetings and documents, Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish; the Secretariat uses two working languages, English and French.

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.  So German would also be very good to know if you plan to work in Europe.

If I were to pick a third language, the most practical language would be Spanish for its usefulness in Europe and the Americas.

    Here are two links:

  4. I recommend French

  5. French would be the next best after English, I think. It's an official UN language, so it'd be good for you to know.

  6. Learn spanish. 400 million people speak spanish and it is one of the official languages of the UN.

  8. Top Ten Languages in the European Union:

    2. German, 32%

    3. French, 26%

    4. Italian, 16%

    5. Spanish, 15 %

    6. Polish, 10 %

    7. Russian, 7 %

    8. Dutch, 6 %

    9. Swedish, 3 %

    10. Greek, 3 %
