I'm doing French for my junior cert and am planning on doing it for the leaving too, I also plan to do an 8th subject and seeing I'm good at languages I'm going to do a language, but I was wondering, Is there any languages on the Leaving cert that are made out that you only start studying them

  1. See my answer to your other question.

I'm doing French too for my Junior!!

Russian has proved to be easyish, you could try German either (some people say it sounds like English and helps with Irish, but personally I hate it)

Look up the Times and Independent and see the languages section to see the %'s.

  2. The best thing to do is to write an email or letter to the people mentioned in this link below.

If you just send a short email asking them if they could list the schools or colleges in your area which do what ever language(s) you're interested in I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige.

Wheter you can do a leaving Cert language from scratch is up to the school.  Normally they will, especially if you show an aptitude for other languages.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi again Karen,

I feel I'm getting to know you! I admire that you haven't just dropped this.

The languages on offer are French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese.

I told you in a different thread that you can also do Russian, but it clashes with Irish on the Examination timetable (as does Arabic).

There are lots of night schools that offer Spanish and Italian as a subject, and I would definitely recommend Spanish as it is pretty easy to pick up if you already have a flair for languages. It is also widely spoken, and similar to Italian and Portugese.

I don't think you need to have studies them at JC in order to do them for LC. You can contact the staff at the SEC (examinations.ie) or get your school to find out for you.

You can download past papers from the www.examinations.ie website, and you can find out where classes are being held at www.nightclasses.ie

    Good luck!
