I recently resigned as Board Secretary from a nonprofit group because the president refused to show the financial statements to the board members, when I have asked on at least 3 occasions (in person) since February '08. She then tells us we are signing up new membership on August 30th and taking in even more money. When I refused to participate in collecting money until the current books were made public, the President said she had handed the money over to a third party (a friend of hers not in the group), and we would not have access to it until September 5th (5 days after the member sign up dues are collected. I made it public to the other members of the group, and now have been put on moderation and every post on the subject that slips through our email group, gets deleted by the president. No one can discuss the topic. I believe there is a couple of thousand dollars missing. What action can be taken to stop this?

  1. Take a look at the bylaws of the corporation and see what that provides for.

  2. I would speak to the authorities-that sounds like something illegal is going on-
