What legal responsibility do property owners have if one of their tenants/clients assaulted me?

I was working at a site that houses mental health clients and I was verbally and physically assaulted and threatened by a tenant/client residing there. I don't work for them, I work for a company that subcontracts there.

  1. That's a question for an attorney.

It may also depend on the extent of your damages. Verbal doesn't mean much; physical can.

Certainly, there's some level of safety that the administrators of the property you were working in are responsible for.

In addition, your employer also is responsible for providing a safe work environment. (Check OSHA regulations.) It may be that your primary course of action would be through your employer, not through the location that you were working in. I'm not a lawyer, so that isn't legal advice. However, there would appear to be responsibility on both your employer and the administrators/owners of the location you were at.

A labor lawyer should be able to help you.

    Good luck.

  2. the facility is supossed to keep them away from a work area at all times, for there own protection.  other then that the owner is liable for any and all  injuries no matter who you work for as long as is happened on his property.
