Im getting my horse in a few weeks so have never actually brought stirrup leathers before and am unsure what size i need. Im 5ft 4 and do ride fairly short. Im looking at the wintec slimline stirrup leathers which come in either 48" 56" or 64". Thanks :)

  1. I am five feet 2 and I used children's stirrup leathers, but it  did depend a bit on the width of the horse and I had and still do have very short legs.

To get the right length you will need to sit squarely astride the horse and let your legs hang down loosely against the horse's sides.  The bottom of the stirrup iron should be level with your ankle bone - that is the knobbly bit on the inside.

I would get a length that is good for you with at least 2 holes above to allow for jumping length.

  2. Definitely go for the 56".  Those should give you plenty of room to go short or go long.

  3. Suggest 56" or 64"

To be certain ask to try your saddle on another mount to get a sense of which leathers allow appropriate adjustment for a variety of riding situations.  Longer leathers can always be shortened.

  4. I'd say 56, but just wondering, are the Wintecs that you are getting leather? a lot of the stuff that Wintec makes isn't , so if it isn't leather I would suggest going with something different for your own safety!

  5. hi! i am the same size as you and i have those stirrup leathers ! i have them in a 56" they are the right size but still allow you to go longer and shorter..

good luck with your new horse =]

  6. It depends. If you're all legs then get 56 or 64. Stirrups should be measured to your ankles, that's the right length for everyone. Get the 56" to be safe.
