What lense is used for this camera?

I need to buy a camera for my photography class and its a 35 mm SLR film camera... teacher recommended a used one...but they usually don't sell the lenses can some one please tell me what lens works for this (those big ones that stick out of the front of the camera) ... by the way in new this??

What is the brand name of the camera?  The different brands of SLR had/have their own lens mounts.  Pentax has/had s***w thread mounting, Minolta had a bayonet type and Nikon, Canon and the others had mounts such that mixing and matching camera bodies and lenses was not possible.  Some lens makers made separate lenses and mounts so you would by a mount for your camera type and attach it to the camera and then attach the lens to the mount.  This also allowed quick lens changes when the situation demanded it.  You might want to try eBay, local flea markets and the ads in the back of photography magazines.

Most 35 mm SLR's made in the past 15 years have come with a standard zoom lens of about 28-80 mm .. some with a 50 mm.  For the purposes of this class, you may find the zoom to give you more freedom is composting your shots.

Good used Nikon and Canon 35 mm SLR's with a standard zoom will cost you from about $50 to $200 depending upon the model and added features.

Many, if not most 35mm SLR cameras will come with a lens.  Typically, you'll find a 50mm "normal" or a mid-range zoom, such as a 35-70mm.  Depending on the brand, model, and age, the mid-range zooms will vary.

For example, I currently have (and am willing to sell on Craigslist) a Nikon N60 with a 35-70mm, a N65 with a 35-80mm, and a N2000 with a 28-80mm.  I'd suggest checking your local edition of Craigslist.  You can also post, for free, a "wanted" ad there.  You'll be amazed at how many photographers have 35mm SLR's available for sale.
