  1. I'd say that you can call yourself a novice.  Your seat and position and natural skill might make changes, but it comes down to hours as well as skills.  Can you change your horses tempo or speed at walk trot and canter?  Things like that help you determine where you are on the riding continuum.  That may be your next step, being able to get your horse to go at different speeds within gaits.  Then, you might want to be able to do lateral movements. This goes for western as well as dressage, think about trail classes!  being able to use your legs separately from your hands and seat is another step.  I mainly do eventing, and being able to rate your horse as well as determine appropriate care for him is part of what I'm learning, so I'm glad you are getting some theory and horse care with your riding!  I can't see your riding, so it's hard to know just what your skill level really is, or what you are ready for next.

I think you are well on your way!

  2. That's a difficult question to answer without actually seeing you ride. It's not really what you can do, but how well you do it. You should ask your instructor for an opinion. Keep in mind, though, that there really aren't set "levels" in riding.

  3. Beginner. It also depends on your horse knowledge. Not just riding but on the ground stuff as well.

  4. beginner...
