What level should my pokemon be at Northern Desert Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Darkness?

I just bought the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 game (darkness explorers). My pokemon keeps on fainting when I reach floor 9/10. My pokemon is a Torchic(lv.20) and my partner is a Treeko(lv.20). Can you give me any tips on what level I should be.
