What license do I need to paint and drywall in ohio? ?

I have been doing it for years without one but now everyone seems to require one.

Contact City Hall, they will tell you, or go the the website for your state, you should be able to locate it there, too.  Check link below under Information and services, the first heading - Business and Professional Licencing - should give you the contact info you need to find out what is required for the state of Ohio.


  2. Ohio only licenses electrical, HVAC, hydroponics, plumbing, and refrigeration trades.  There is no state requirement for any other trades to be licensed.  Basically all you need is a magnetic sign for the truck or van and you are legit.  Not really a good situation, but that is the way it is.

    Some local jurisdictions may require a license, but the requirements are generally very loose.  You will need to contact the local building department (county or city) that requires the license for details.

    Bonding is another issue.  No state law requiring it, but it is common for general contractors to require subs to be bonded.  You need to see your insurance agent for that.
