Phil Mickelson turned professional way back in 1992. He has been a major force on the Tour, being the closest golfer in terms of points to the great Tiger Woods.
Mickelson has won 48 titles in his professional career. Out of the forty eight, he has won forty of them on the Professional Golf Association Tour, seven on the European Tour and one on the Challenge Tour.
The 42-year-old American has won four major championship titles to date. He has won the Masters Tournament three times and the PGA Championship once.
The last major championship he took part in was the 2010 Masters Tournament, where he displayed his extraordinary skills to prove his dominance on the Tour.
Phil Mickelson is one of those players whose potential was suppressed due to the presence of Woods.
Whenever the duo participated in a tournament, Woods usually stole the attention of the crowd due to his flawless game. During the time of his dominance, Woods played at a level that was unmatched by everyone, including Mickelson.
The American professional golfer used to play with the long-handled putters, also known as the belly putter.
But after the decision was made to impose the ban on the belly putters, Mickelson switched back to the standard putter.
His 2012 season started off with a disappointing show on the Humana Challenge, where he finished tied for the 49th place.
The 42-year-old struggled with his game and found it difficult to adjust to the same level of play as the other contenders exhibited a good performance.
A fairly good run started when the three-time Masters Tournament champion recorded impressive results that got him tied for third place.
He was also part of the American Ryder Cup team that lost to their European rivals.
Mickelson knows how to win tournaments. The left-handed golfer has plenty of golf left in him, and he likes to compete with the young golfers on the Tour.
The 2013 season will be a testing season for Mickelson, as he needs to win some tournaments in order to catch up with woods.
