I've always used 15lb and 17lb Sufix on my bait casters, it seams fine, but the fish don't fight as hard. I've heard that 12lb is common, what brand is best.

So again, what pound, test is best best of semi heavy cover, weeds, and bridge pilings, or whats just the best for overall bass fishing.

  1. Heavy cover will break your budget, my friend. I use braided line (SpiderWire). Mono stretches to much and will break, causing your line to coil at the end. Besides, buy the tough stuff and you'll save cash since you won't have to buy more for a long time.

  2. i would use power pro its braded and it costs quite a bit so i would use 10, or 12 pound shakespeare cajun line that would be the best

  3. 30 pound power pro for bass, come on, someone thinks to highly of themself, so ppl can fish their whole life and not catch more than a 8 pounder, i would use 10 pound, the mono brand is fine

  4. 10-12lb test spiderwire x*x. very strong and lets you enjoy battling out with the monster on the other end!!!! If you are in heavy cover you better get a weedless hook with weed gaurds, can probably pick them up at any walmart (supercenter prefferably) or any local bait shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I never use anything less than 14lb. test on my casting reels. 12lb. is going on my spinning reels! For what you want to do, I would definitely use Berkley Trilene XT. It's tough enough to get the jobs done. As for lb. test, I would go big( 20-25lb.) Using mono in heavy cover isn't always the best choice. There are times when braid is a must. Depending on how "heavy" the cover is, you can probably get away with a lighter line. Keep in mind though, those fish will wrap you around trees, drag your line across rock bottom or oyster beds, run you through and over tree branches, bury themselves in salad, these variables are "line killers!"  and 12lb. mono would be very susceptible. Mono is great for say, topwater frogging over lilly pads. If you prefer 12lb., you may want to invest in some Trilene XT(extra tough), just try to avoid the obvious "danger" spots for such light line in heavy stuff.

  6. 10lb. spiderwire trust me it works

  7. mono is the worst line for cover of any kind! i use 30lb powerpro    for all my bass fishing needs cuz it doesnt stretch
