Ok, Violet is almost ten months, The other day we noticed what looked like a tumar on her left side. It's the size of my thumb, It seemed to have popped up over night. So I made a vet appointment for the next morning. When I woke up the next morning it was leaking blood and puss, not much but it was kinda goowey. We went to the vet and imeadetly the vet said we should take it off, They shaved it and gave us antibiotics and if it doesn't clear up by saturday my little princess is gonna go under the knife. So to be honest I thought having it removed sounded weird because it is pussing almost like it's infected. I can see now that it's shaved the puss is coming out of the hair pores, so is the blood, Has anyone ever seen anything like this, I am planning on going to another vet to get a second opinion, IDK, Just sounded weird to me... Any one have any advise or has seen this before?

  1. I would get another opionion.I have seen dogs get tumore all diferent types and they have been nothing and lived a full life so dont be to scared. We had one dog that had one her whole life .It was in a spot to remove it we would just take her to the vet and have it drained.Than I had a dog that had several fatty ones and those are common and none tested positive for any cancer .He lived untill almost 15 years old so dont stress out yet.Just get another opionion

  2. I don't blame you for getting a second opinion, I would too.

A male Dobermann of mine developed a fleshy black lump on his flank, no larger than my thumb when he was almost four years old. The first vet diagnosed it as a harmless wart, the second vet who "removed" it said it was definitely a cyst. I had the lump removed because it oozed deep red/black gunge and it bothered Boris.

When he was seen by a canine oncologist, I discovered it was cancer and had not even been completely removed.

Cancerous lumps come in many shapes and forms so really and I would not like to hazard a guess. The majority of lumps are perfectly harmless and I hope that will be the case for your dog.

  3. I think you need to get back on the phone to the vet to have them explain again, you sound confused.

Unlikely to be a tumour in a ten month old. This is an abscess; a localised area of soft tissue infection. It's already burst so they've given you antibiotics which may well resolve it. If it doesn't, they're going to anaesthetise her so they can debride it and deep-clean it.
