  1. IN DENTAL SCHOOL I WAS THE FIRST IN MY CLASS TO WEAR LOUPES. AFTERWARD, MANY OF MY CLASSMATES GOT THEM TOO.

    THERE ARE 2 POPULAR TYPES:

    1=FLIP UP AND

    2=THROUGH THE LENS ELIMINATES THIS PROBLEM

    THE PROS FOR THE FLIP UP IS EASY CHANGE FROM PRESCRIPTION TO MAGNIFICATION.

    THE CONS ARE INFECTION CONTROL AND POTENTIAL FOR CROSS-CONTAMINATION.

    THROUGH THE LENS ELIMINATES THIS.

    IF YOUR PRESCIPTION CHANGES THE FLIP TYPE CAN EASILY BE TRANSFERRED.

  2. For hygiene buy 2.5x loupes. if you take bigger magnification, you will reduce the size of field (you wont see the whole mouth because of too much magnification)

    If you wear glasses and dont want to switch loups and glasses everytime you want to speak to the patient or write in the chart (you wont like to do that with loops on, even if you can see on the side), you should get flip-up. Otherwise get Trough the lens, as its a lot lighter. Some peoples think they want to adjust so they go with flip-up, but eventually they all wish they got TTL.

    Get a good brand if you dont want to get a cheap frame or distorted image. (orascoptic, design for vision, surgitel, etc)

  3. I have Design for Vision through the lens and love the lightness of them.

    Heine is a very good company for flip down; excellent optics, good quality frame; i would have purchased through this company except they don't manufacture through the lens type loupes..

    Those are the only two I'd recommend for whichever style you choose.
